Diet For A Healthy Vision

Vision is one of the important senses which help us see objects.
The eye adjusts according to the light available, whether its day or night.

Foods that help improving vision are as follows-

1.Vitamin C - Foods such as citrus fruits, oranges, amla, peaches, lime, have a lot of antioxidants.This helps maintaining good vision.

2. Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids - Foods such as flax seeds, olive oil, fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines are good to be supplemented in the diet.

3. Vitamin A - Food sources such as yellow coloured fruits and vegetables, carrots, pumpkin, apples, strawberry, papaya, tomatoes etc should be consumed in the diet.These foods have carotene help the eye functioning better.

4.Zinc - Foods rich i zinc are whole wheat cereals such as wheat, eggs sholud be provided in the diet.Also supplement lutein found in the retina of the eye.

5.Micro- nutrients - Foods such as broccoli, green leafy vegetables such as asparagus, spinach etc are good for providing the essential micro- nutrient to the body.

Avoid the following for healthier vision -

  • Alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Caffeinated drinks such as tea, coffee, cold -drinks to be reduced as much as possible, not to be a part of regular diet.A non caffeinated tea can be taken.
  • Hydrogenated fat - Such as ghee, butter to be avoided if consumed daily  in large mounts.
  • Cut down to refined sugars , such as sugar in cold-drinks etc.
A healthy diet is important to ensure the health of the eyes. Along with diet , protection from over exposure to the sunlight should be avoided.
