Green peas rice recipe

Date updated: Wed, Mar 03, 2010
By Bolohealth

Green peas rice or matar polao as you call it, is an easy and quick recipe that you can prepare within 20 minutes. The added advantage here is that you can cook it in your microwave, without compromising on the taste. Remember that green peas are an excellent source of fiber.

Ingredients:

2 cups basmati rice, washed and uncooked
2 cups green peas shelled
2-3 green chilies slit
1 ginger (about 1 inch piece), grated
1 onion, chopped
2 tablespoon butter/ghee
2 inch cinnamon stick
4-1/2 cups water
Salt to taste

Method:
Take a microwave safe large bowl and add butter. Microwave it on high temperature for 30 seconds till the butter melts.

Now add the cinnamon sticks, slit green chilies, grated ginger and chopped onion. Microwave again, uncovered, for three minutes. Allow the onions to turn transparent. Remove.

Add the green peas, rice, water and salt. Mix it very well with the onion mixture.

Now place it back in the oven with a cover on the bowl and microwave it for 12 minutes until the rice is cooked and gets tender and the water gets evaporated.

With a fork or spoon, stir the green pea rice to fluff them up and serve hot.
