During pregnancy your calorie intake should be within 2100 and 2700 per day. Have a balanced diet including protein, carbohydrates and fats. These will benefit you as well as the baby. Remember, pregnancy is not the time for dieting. Gaining adequate weight is important to help your unborn baby develop. Also do a check-up and sonography to confirm that the baby is growing well.

During pregnancy, it is not necessary for you to gain a few kilograms every few weeks or month. To understand how much weight you can safely gain during pregnancy, you need to be aware of your BMI (Body Mass Index) before pregnancy The higher your BMI – or ratio of weight in kilograms to height in square meters – the lower the amount of weight you can add while pregnant. So if you have are classified as someone with normal body weight of BMI of 18-22, safe weight gain for you should be in the range of 11.3 -15.8 kgs.

Dear User,

The amount of weight you should gain depends on your weight before pregnancy. Ideally you should gain 28 to 40 pounds if you were underweight before pregnancy or 15 to 25 pounds if you were overweight before pregnancy. Also the fact is even if you are gaining 1-2 pounds a week during your second trimester it is normal.
Do consult with a dietitian for the right kind of diet and nutrition plan post your evaluation.
