4 swine flu deaths take India's toll to 1268

Mumbai, February 08: The country registered four more deaths occurring due to swine flu or influenza A (H1N1) infection yesterday, according to health officials. These deaths have pushed up the countrywide toll for deaths from swine flu to1268, they said.

Two of the new deaths – including one death each in Maharashtra and Gujarat – were reported during the day itself. In addition, two deaths which took place earlier in Gujarat were confirmed by authorities in the state.

From the total swine flu deaths in the country, 326 deaths are from Maharashtra, 255 from Gujarat, 182 from Rajasthan, 141 from Karnataka, 95 from Delhi, 52 from Andhra Pradesh, 38 from Punjab, 37 each from Kerala and Haryana, 22 from Madhya Pradesh, 18 from Uttar Pradesh,13 from Uttarkhand, 8 each from Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 each from Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh, 6 from Puducherry, 5 from Goa, 4 from Jammu and Kashmir, 3 from Orissa, 2 from Assam and 1 each from Mizoram and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Further, health officials confirmed the diagnosis of 10 new cases of swine flu in the country. Six of these were reported in Gujarat, while four were from Karnataka. 29,064 cases of swine flu have been so far confirmed in India.
