
Mumbai, March 05: India registered the deaths of two more people from swine flu or influenza A (H1N1) yesterday, health officials revealed. With these deaths the country’s total toll from the epidemic has now climbed to 1,385, sources said.
According to health officials, both were earlier deaths that took place in Maharashtra and were confirmed as being due to swine flu and reported. However, no deaths took place during the day itself, the sources said.
So far, the distribution of deaths within the individual states includes 372 deaths from Maharashtra, 295 from Gujarat, 194 from Rajasthan, 148 from Karnataka, 95 from Delhi, 52 from Andhra Pradesh, 40 from Punjab, 38 from Haryana, 37 from Kerala, 26 from Madhya Pradesh, 19 from Uttar Pradesh, 13 from Uttarakhand, 11 from Chhattisgarh, 8 deaths each from Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 from Tamil Nadu, 6 from Puducherry, 5 from Goa, 4 from Jammu and Kashmir, 3 from Orissa, 2 from Assam and 1 death each from Mizoram and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Health officials also confirmed that 18 new swine flu infections were reported from across the country. As many as 16 of these occurred in Maharashtra, while the remaining 2 were from Karnataka. India has had a total of 29, 672 confirmed cases of swine flu so far.
